About me

I am a Chartered Psychologist and a member of the British Psychological Society's Division of Health Psychology, the International Association for the Study of Pain, and the Complex Regional Pain Syndrome International Research Consortium. 


I am a member of UWE's Centre for Health and Clinical Research and lead its Supportive, Palliative and End of Life Care research theme. I am also a member of the UWE Death and Dying Collective. My research interests are focused on palliative and end of life care, quality of life in chronic illness, and rehabilitation for people with chronic pain.

Amongst my research projects, I have recently completed a NHIR-funded project to understand therapy services offered to people with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome in regional specialist centres to see how these could be applied earlier in the care pathway. Other recent work in end of life and palliative care has looked at the conversations that people have about death and dying and has explored the concept of Death Literacy.  I regularly work in partnership with a local hospice, where I also have a substantive contract, and which enables research activity in areas of shared interest and of benefit to people with life-limiting conditions.

My research has been supported by external funding from the National Institute for Health Research, Versus Arthritis. and the Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome Association. 

I currently supervise a number of PhD and Professional Doctorate students and I am Director of Studies for a PhD in end of life and palliative care.
