About me

My post has research, teaching, and scholarship roles. I am interested in applied research that addresses questions of importance to patients and healthcare. My research expertise is in developing patient reported outcome measures, health education and rheumatology nurse-led care.

Area of expertise

My expertise in outcome research ranges from developing new measures to undertaking cross-cultural validation to enable accurate comparison of outcomes across different countries.

We have just developed and validated a new outcome measure for assessing the impact of Giant Cell Arteritis (involving patients from 38 ophthalmology and rheumatology centers across England and Wales) and a measure for evaluating the impact of glucocorticoid therapy in people with various rheumatic diseases (including patients from the UK, the USA, Australia, and New Zealand).

Our patient education research contributes to clinical practice. We have recently completed a project to assess implementation of patient education recommendations in inflammatory arthritis across 23 countries, funded by European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology.

At the College of Health, Science and Society, I lead Evidence and Research in Practice module, aiming to help students develop skills and knowledge in the evaluation of research evidence, to inform practice and policy decisions. I also teach research methods and supervise postgraduate research.
