About me

I am based at the Bristol Robotics Lab, where I am theme leader for Assisted Living. I am also Associate Professor in Independent Living System, in the Department of Engineering, Design and Maths and Head of Electronics and Computer Systems at Designability, Bath. My multi-disciplinary background is underpinned by degrees in Electronic Systems Engineering, Biomedical Instrumentation Engineering and a PhD in Interactive Evolutionary Computation. I have over 15 years of research experience working on projects with partners from a diverse range of commercial and industrial enterprise. My current portfolio of projects include in-depth analysis of requirements for the design of interactive systems and usability and user-experience studies in areas such as personal service robots and assistive technologies, computer-aided design tools and locative media apps to support student learning. My research is defined by taking a person-centred approach to explore creative design solutions that are not only functionally effective and efficient, but can also result in pleasurable and satisfying user experiences.
