About me
Graduating from Bristol UWE in 2002 with a degree in Biomedical Science, I went on to complete a PhD in Oral Biology and Dental Science at Bristol university. My doctoral thesis centred around investigating toothwear using a novel scanning method for the field called a non-contact, white light profilometer and provided the basis for development of new commerical toothpastes.
In 2008 I started a postdoc role in the anatomy department at Bristol university. It was here that I began teaching undergraduate medical, dental, veterinary and science students. As part of this process I took on a project to develop a physical and online teaching resource to help students study cross-sectional anatomy. I named the resulting resource H.O.R.A.C.E (Human Online Resource for Anatomical Cross-sectional Education).
I started at UWE in 2012 where I have since expanded my teaching interests to cover all aspects of human anatomy, and am now recognised as an expert in Technology Enhanced Learning and innovative approaches to assessment design. I am constantly looking to improve and hone the way we deliver our teaching here at UWE, advising staff on new ways to utilise technology as a complementary tool but always remembering the value of traditional teaching methods: Technology can enhance teaching and learning; but people are what make it great.
As of the academic year starting 2019, I am also the Programme Leader for the BSc (hons) Biomedical Science course.
