About me

Kieran is a Director for Technical within the College of Arts, Technology and Environment at the University of the West of England (UWE), working in Higher Education since 2001. He is a leader and champion of the technical teaching and learning experience, that embellishes the student journey through innovative teaching, skill development and technical professional experiences within the technical learning environments. Having started his career as an artist, following his studies at UWE and then Wimbledon School of Art, he uses his creative knowledge to influence planning and development of the student and staff experience with the melding of excellent teaching, physical space design and third space developments. 

Kieran was the first UWE graduate to be selected for the New Contemporaries Exhibition in 2002 Link, an annual prestigious national exhibition. Moving forward he developed a national and international exhibition profile, exhibiting across the UK and Europe and publishing. Whilst he practiced as an artist, he also developed a fabrication company and worked as an artist educator with Bristol City Council, Arnolfini and Spike Island. As a technology and process polymath he is committed to leading the pioneering and embedding in of the broadest range of technologies and processes into the Colleges resource portfolio. He remains a practicing creative, embodying multi-disciplinary techniques for design production projects. Kieran was also one of five artist, curators who set up a successful large gallery and artist residency space called LOT in a multi-story disused shop in the centre of Bristol. All these influences are used to create a unique student journey within UWE. 

Kieran is a keen water sports person, surfing, and swimming regularly. He grew up as a beach lifeguard on the coast of North Devon and has represented his country internationally with swimming and surf lifesaving. The determination to challenge himself in these spaces has developed his drive and soft skill awareness. He is now a keen advocate for coaching and soft skills enabling within the student and staff journey of learning, recognising the importance for healthy rounded life skills for all. Kieran is committed to equity for all and takes particular interest in the advancement of inclusion and equality representation within technical department.
