Area of expertise

Before joining UWE, Susan Newman was a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) and Senior Researcher for the Corporate Strategy and Industrial Development research programme at the University of the Witwatersrand.

Susan's research interests include the political economy of development (with particular interest in Southern Africa), the relationship between finance and industrial policy and development, and the financialisation of commodity chains.
