Area of expertise

I have  an established  international reputation in the field of history and citizenship education.  I have  contributed  to several Council of Europe  projects on history teaching  throughout Europe and have researched and published widely in the field of learning and teaching in history.  I am a former   Editor of the journal ,  Primary History  and  continue  to work on the Editorial Board.
I have worked on a number of significant European projects linked with education and am currently  working on a Seventh Framework Programme – Supporting and co-ordinating actions on innovative methods in science education:   the Engineer project.   I have a strong record in research and consultancy and within the past few years have undertaken work for the Teacher Development Agency; Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, Department for Education, the Historical Association, Primary National Strategy, BBC and Teachers’ TV in the UK.  
 
I am working  with a number of  local schools and educational settings in joint practice development and  am  experienced in action research  and in developing practitioner based  projects to support  school improvement.   I am also  interested  life histories and   narrative methods to research identities.
