About me

I currently work as Associate Director of Education: Professional Development in the School of Education and Childhood.  I have a range of curriculum design, teaching and academic management experience spanning over twenty years in HE.  I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Area of expertise

My teaching and research interests have included the areas of teacher education, written discourse analysis and narrative analysis.  In recent times a main focus of my academic work has been on the personal development of students and reflexive pedagogies.  In particular, this has related to developing students' creative and other transferable skills as well as a critical awareness of self, context and skills.  I have made use of creative writing and narrative inquiry as vehicles to develop students' reflexive skills.  Latterly I have been applying my knowledge and skills in HE learning and teaching through my work with academic staff from across the university on their professional development.  My work in academic management, curriculum development and teaching is now focused at postgraduate level on a range of professional development programmes and CPD courses.  I work with postgraduate students in a supervisory and examining capacity on various pedagogical and methodological areas, particularly in relation to narrative inquiry.
