About me

I am Deputy Head of the School of Applied Sciences with responsibility for the student journey and staff management. Previously, I held other roles such as Employability Lead, developing strategic and transformative innovations including digital tools e.g. School of Applied Sciences employability blog Home | Employability in Applied Sciences (uwe.ac.uk) and ScienceFutures (sciencefuturesuwe.co.uk). In addition to this, I was the Widening Participation Lead for the department between 2015 and 2020 and enabled the development of inclusive approaches to learning and teaching and was the co-convener of the first faculty BME Conference in 2015.

I have held roles outside HE and utilise my experience from industry to enable and develop a dynamic, results-driven, enterprising approach to learning and teaching in HE. I combine this with active civic engagement on boards and committees of leading organisations locally, nationally and internationally.

Alongside my administrative and teaching responsibilities, I lead a research group with on projects addressing infectious of public health importance. Our projects include clinical transport devices, antimicrobial stewardship, resistance and compound evaluation. I am open to speaking with interested candidates seeking summer internships, MRes, PhDs and Post-Doctoral opportunities.

I am an active member of leading professional societies e.g. American Society for Microbiology (ASM), Applied Microbiology International (AMI), African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM), Africa Initiative Group for Microbiology (AIG) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

I am the 2023 winner of the Royal Society of Biology Higher Education Bioscience Teacher of the Year award (#HEBTOTY2023), the UWE Bristol Vice Chancellor's Excellence Award (2016), selected to the Bristol BME Powerlist (2018) among others.
