About me

Jenny is a Visiting Professor at UWE and holds a full time position as Head of Learning and Teaching Innovation and Professor of Higher Education Pedagogies at the University of Gloucestershire. She studied for her undergraduate degree in geography at St Anne's College, Oxford University and for her PhD (in biogeography) at Swansea University. She holds a PG Cert. HE from UWE. 

Jenny is passionate about teaching, researching and developing curricula and practice in geography and cognate disciplines. She held the roles of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Deputy Head of Department and Associate Head of Department (Research & Scholarship) during her time at UWE. Jenny was also an Academic Practice Partner in the Academic Practice Directorate at UWE. She is a National Teaching Fellow (NTF), A Principal Fellow in the UKPSF (PFHEA), and a registered Advance HE Academic Associate. She is currently working as an invited consultant on the national OfS/Advance HE Degree Standards Project. Jenny was the 2019 recipient of the RGS-IBG Taylor & Francis Award for sustained contributions to teaching and learning in higher education.

Jenny is a senior academic with substantial experience managing quality and standards. She has worked as an advisor to universities, examination boards, Advance HE and the Quality Assurance Agency.

Area of expertise

Jenny researches into the area of environmental resource management and she is internationally recognised for her scholarship in higher education pedagogies. Jenny has published over 100 journal articles, book chapters and co-edited books. She has published over 165 other articles including consultancy reports, conference papers/proceedings and invited presentations in the education and public sectors. She has delivered keynote papers in the UK, USA and Australia. Her Google Scholar h-index is 23 and she has over 2,000 citations. Her research has been funded by  ESRC, HEA and Forest Research. She purposefully applies the outcomes of her enquiry to educational enhancement and development.  

In support of her research, Jenny is a Chartered Geographer (CGeog), a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) (FRGS), Member of the Society for Research into Higher Education (SRHE) and Member of the International Network for Learning and Teaching Geography in HE (INLT).
 
Jenny has chaired the RGS-IBG Higher Education Research Group and is currently a member of the International Editorial Board for Journal of Geography in Higher Education. She is a former member of the Editorial Collective for Geography and Editor-in-Chief of Planet.
 
Jenny has undertaken a number of national education enhancement roles including serving on the QAA Review Panel for the Geography Subject Benchmark Statement, NERC Peer Review college, HEA National Teaching Fellowships and ISSOTL Annual Conferences. She is an invited member of the HEA Assessment and Feedback Community of Practice and the British Conference of Undergraduate Research (BCUR) Steering Group.
