About me

Monika Oechsler's art practice explores notions of social and cultural performativity and includes artists' film, multi-screen video projection installations, sound environments, performance, photography and animation. The early work investigated gender and identity as performed in interpersonal group dynamics and through social role-playing. Recent work explores the interstitial temporalities produced in the conjunction of public space, history and memory. Many of  her works were commissions, for example from Film and Video Umbrella, Picture This, Fact Liverpool, Edith Russ Haus fuer Media, 7.Werkleitz Biennale, Halle, Site Gallery Sheffield, Lentos Kunst Museum and recently Beaconsfield Gallery. In additon works are held in private and public collections such as the James Moore Collection, Royal Armouries Museum, Lentos Kunstmuseum and Konstfack.
