About me

I have been working at UWE as a criminologist since 2005 when the Criminolgy award was first started.  Since my time here I have held a variety of managerial roles including Criminology Programme Leader, Sociology and Criminology Subject Lead and Head of the Dept of Sociology and Criminology.

I am now concentrating on the areas of teaching and research and exploring my academic interstes in Restorative Justice, Restorative Approaches Youth Crime and Youth Justice and Victimology.  I am the module leader for three modules, Youth Crime, Youth Justice; Victims and Victimology and the Criminology Project module as well as teaching Understanding Crime.  By teaching on these four modules it means that I am fortunate enough to teach on all three years of the Crimninology programmes.

Before becoming a criminologist I was fortunate enough to work as a Registered Nurse and Midwife within a number of NHS hospital.  Having a practical and theoretical background as this has been fortuatous as I am able to easily see and make the links between theory and practice which is not always a skill that academics have.  As a consequence of this skill, before coming to UWE to run Criminology, I work at The Institute of Criminal Justice Studies traing Probation Officers.

Since 2010 I have been the managing editor for The International Journal of Police Science and Management.

Area of expertise

Restorative Justice; REstorative Aproaches; Youth Crime and Youth Justice; Victimology; linking theory and practice.
