About me

I am a Senior Lecturer in Engineering and I have published research in a number of overlapping subject matters; namely, Fluid Dynamics, Atomisation, Combustion, Risk and Laser Diagnostics.

Background:

I obtained both my MEng (Hon) degree in Mechanical Engineering and my PhD from the University of Cardiff in 2002 and 2006 respectively. My PhD, sponsored by Ricardo UK, investigated gasoline sprays from a Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) injector.

From 2006 to 2012 I worked as a Research Associate at the Gas Turbine Research Centre (GTRC). Whilst at the GTRC I worked on a wide range of industry focused research projects related to the Automotive, Aero and Risk & Hazard sectors.

In 2012 I joined Babcock International as a Senior Engineer where I worked with the R&D team and as technical support for Business Development.

In 2015 I joined UWE as a Lecturer in Automotive Engineering.

Area of expertise

My research explores fundamental atomisation, model development and non-intrusive diagnostics. I have used my expertise to publish research in a number of related areas:

  • Characterisation of a range of a injector technologies and fuel types (Sponsored by Ricardo UK)
  • Development of a novel laser diagnostic technique for quantifying transient thin fuel films.
  • Development of a model to predict the spray characteristics of flashing sprays (Sponsored by DNV)
  • Development of the understanding of the flammability of high-flashpoint mists (Sponsored by HSE and RWE npower)
