About me

I am Business and Law Clinic Director, with responsibility for leading strategic development and delivery of clinic activities across CBL.   My role also includes wider strategic work in developing our programmes in the School of Law to enhance delivery and align with the 2030 strategy.

I was awarded a Doctorate in Education in 2023. I am a practising solicitor

I have previously led a range of modules including  Employment Law,  LLB Dispute Resolution Skills and Law in Action on the LLB,  Civil Litigation and Employment for the LPC and negotiation and advocacy for the MBA and Professional Skills Course.

I am a  a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.  I have been funded to develop a number of learning and teaching projects, most recently to explore how reflection is used in different disciplines across UWE and the challenges of developing reflective capacity experienced by UWE students. I have also participated in external projects including work funded by the SRA to explore Challenges to Access to Justice.

I am accredited as a civil and commercial mediator and organise and coach students in mediation both within the law department and for national and international competitions.  In 2018 and 2019 the UWE teams I coached won the UK Student Mediation Competition, also picking up the award for Best Individual Mediator.

Before becoming a solicitor I read for a degree in English Literature and Language at Oxford University.   I then converted to law and worked for Clifford Chance in London and Brussels as a commercial information officer and trainee solicitor.  I subsequently practised as a litigation and employment solicitor for a number of years in Bristol before moving into teaching in higher education.

My research interests centre on the student experience of learning law, focusing on how our programmes can support both the academic development of our studenst but also their holistic personal and professional development.

I am co-chair of the Bristol Pro Bono Group and committee member for the UK Student Mediation Competition.
