About me

Dr. Anastasia Karamalidou joined UWE Bristol as Senior Lecturer in Criminology in October 2015. Prior to that Anastasia worked at Middlesex University, London as Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Criminology (2009-2015), and as an Associate Lecturer in Criminology at the University of East London (2005-2009). With reference to teaching, Anastasia is currently leading a second year option module on Prisons and a third year option module on Punishment & Human Rights. She is also co-leading the core second year module Contemporary Perspectives in Criminology. In respect of other roles, Anastasia is currently the Criminology Employability Lead and one of the Department's (Social Sciences) Mental Health First Aiders.

In addition to her academic professional identity, Anastasia also has a keen interest in psychoanalysis as a clinical practice and is engaged in different professional & personal development activities to this end. Anastasia was involved in Adult Suicide Prevention work with the residential facility Maytree in London (2021-2023) and has completed a two year Infant Observation Course at the British Psychotherapy Foundation, London.
