About me

Experienced academic with +8 years teaching, research and knowledge exchange. An entrepreneur, seasoned practitioner with a background in Management Consultancy and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Joined Bristol Business School, UWE in 2018 as Senior Lecturer in Strategy and Enterprise. 

Currently Programme Leader of the full-time MBA. 

Module Leader for the popular Management Consulting elective delivered to MBA and M.Sc. Business students, where students engage in developing solutions to corporate clients' real-world problems.    

 

Part of  bidding team securing ~£1.7m research funding from EPSRC – NETWORK+ REDISTRIBUTED MANUFACTURING IN DEPLOYED MEDICAL CARE. Co-Investigator – Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Capability.

Sits on the Steering Committee of the IUK/KTP Microbiome Special Interest Group (SIG):  National advisory board aiming to accelerate the commercialisation of microbiome-based products and services in the UK and create a vibrant community by connecting industry and academia. Contributed to published national (UK) Roadmap.

 

Academic lead for a KTP funded collaboration between UWE and a leading SaaS company.

Supervise 3 PhD research projects and numerous MBA dissertations.


Area of expertise

Researcher, academic and knowledge exchange specialist with extensive practitioner experience, with an international outlook, gained from over 30 years spent working for, holding positions of leadership, and consulting to technology centric businesses, from early-stage start-ups to global corporations.

 

Early career was as a scientific and industrial researcher with a Physics degree and a PhD in 'optical imaging' from Loughborough University, leading to R&D positions of employment and management in semiconductors, nuclear radiation detectors and electronic displays with Philips Electronics and Sharp Corporation, working in Switzerland, UK, and Japan. Prolific inventor with over a dozen patents awarded and extensive scientific/technical publications.

 

After gaining an MBA from Warwick Business School transitioned into management consultancy with PRTM (now PwC), later becoming Director with Grant Thornton's technology practice and Strategy Director for the innovation consulting arm of Frog Design in Munich. Spent several years helping global companies transform their commercial and business strategies, product development processes and supply chain performance.

 

Served as Director of Business Development for a division of Versatel, large German telecom operator and Marketing Director for Spectrasite (SST), telecom services arm of the Lattice Group (British Gas).

 

Strong entrepreneurial culture with a passion and demonstrated history of supporting early-stage technology and university spin-out companies working in disruptive and digital technology fields such as healthcare, optical imaging, biotechnology and computer software.

Co-founder of CHAIN Biotechnology Ltd. (2014), a start-up company based at MediCity (Boots Campus) in Nottingham, developing a new therapeutic paradigm utilising microbial spores to produce and orally deliver medicines and vaccines into the human gut (microbiome). Served as its Chief Commercial Officer in its early development, remaining a major shareholder and strategic advisor to the CEO and board.
