About me

Yingdan (Catherine) Cai is a Senior Lecturer in Strategy and International Management. Previously, she has been the Programme Leader for BA(Hons) International Business and BA(Hons) International Business Management. She has more than 10 years of experience in higher education institutions. She holds a PG Cert in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education with distinction and is a Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE) as well as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Catherine is highly engaged in both teaching and research in the fields of strategy and international business. Her areas of expertise include international business strategy and the study of emerging market multinational enterprises. She has published in the Asia Pacific Journal of Management and has presented her work at numerous academic conferences and doctoral consortiums. In addition, she was selected to attend the fourth Lindau Meeting in Economic Sciences, where she had the opportunity to interact with 22 Nobel laureates in economic sciences.

Throughout her career, Catherine has received numerous awards and recognitions for her exceptional teaching and research. She was shortlisted for the Management Education Practice Award (Early Career Track) at the 2018 British Academy of Management Conference for her project on "Practice-led teaching and learning for BA(Hons) International Business". In 2019, she was honored with an exceptional contribution award from UWE Bristol for her work on the BA International Business program. In addition, she has been nominated for several teaching awards at UWE. Her research paper "Does government stake influence cross-border deal completion? Evidence from Brazil" was a finalist for the CGIO Best Paper in International Corporate Governance in the International Management Division of the Academy of Management Annual Meeting in 2014, and an abridged version of the paper was published in the Academy of Management Best Paper Proceedings. Furthermore, her dissertation proposal was awarded the Best COST Think Tank Proposal Award at the 1st COST-EIBA/EIASM Doctoral Think Tank on Emerging Markets and Their Corporate Players at EIBA 2010.

As a program leader, Catherine is dedicated to preparing students in the BA(Hons) International Business and BA(Hons) International Business Management to become responsible global citizens.
