About me

I came from a mental health social work background and initially taught round social work and mental health. I moved through to research and writing on young people and mental health, and then became interested in the theory with which you can understand those kinds of problems. I have always been excited by the potential of ideas and what you can make with them, and much of my spare time is spent reading and writing. Along with teaching, an element of my job that I value highly, intellectual activity still feels like a privilege.

Area of expertise

My key field has been psychosocial theory and studies for the last decade. I have been part of the UK network for Psychosocial Studies - now The Association of psychosocial Studies and have been involved in growing the filed via, e.g. editing a core journal, involvement in organising an annual conference and so on. I also do a range of projects in Europe, and write and research on European Social Work. My most recent work here and in Europe has been in relation to Resilience in social work practitioners.
