About me

I teach photography and teach and support graphic design principles as well as the key software applications associated with these disciplines.

I am committed to the development and expansion of an educational framework which underpins practice-led technical teaching and delivers professional growth to technical staff members in recognition of their achievements and contributions.

Since successfully completing a PGCAP qualification in 2020, I have supported and mentored staff wishing to undertake professional development training through nationally recognised awarding bodies as well as led efforts to draft a technical training strategy with collaborative learning opportunities for our practice-based educators.

In 2022, I was appointed to sit on the Academic Board as technical representative. In this capacity, my principal mandate has been to advocate for and positively shape the technical community's contributions in alignment with UWE Bristol's 2030 ambitions, be that through governance, contributions to the development of program and module design or via developing a clear dialogue with the student voice as a means to positively impact on graduate outcomes.

In addition, I also hold a position on the Technician Commitment Steering Group and have developed multiple projects which align to its key principles. Specifically, my focus has been on developing suitable methods to untangle and qualify how the contributions of practice-based learning, delivered by technical staff, impact and inform key feedback metrics, such as the National Student Survey, Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey as well as the Graduate Outcomes Survey. I am currently working on the development of a collaborative knowledge share platform, designed to enable more effective interdisciplinary knowledge and skills retention and transfer as well as demonstrate best practice working methods.

Outside of these core activities, a particular area of interest within my role is interactive and technology-based learning. Whilst our team has always been dedicated to digital learning support, specifically on CAD and Visual Design software, this field has developed at an incredible pace over the past 5 years, as has the technical advancement of digital content delivery. This is a key area of my practice which I am focused on developing further; in particular: gamification, interactive storytelling, location-based learning, user responsive content customisation and live feedback systems.

Should you have questions or require support or advice on any of these subjects, including PG Cert or HEA recognition, please don't hesitate to contact me.
