About me

Jonathan is an accomplished architect bringing over 15 years of professional experience to his role as Associate Director: Spatial Practice. He has taught architecture and planning modules at UWE for nearly a decade; being recognised with the Department of Architecture and Built Environment Teacher of the Year award in 2020.

Previously as Programme Leader for the highly-regarded BA (Hons) Architecture and Planning degree, Jonathan oversaw curriculum design and delivery to achieve strong student satisfaction and continued accreditation. He excels at leading design studios, authoring innovative briefs, and empowering students to exceed their potential. His leadership and mentorship of studio staff and students fosters an environment of open dialogue and feedback.

Jonathan balances teaching with active research focused on architectural regeneration and technology integration in education. He designed pioneering feedback software that earned national recognition for its impact and continues to be developed to integrate with Artificial Intelligence. Jonathan has co-authored a book chapter and several published papers. He also applies his expertise through architectural competition entries.

Prior to UWE, Jonathan gained valuable industry experience at the prestigious firm Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios where he led teams on complex listed building and conservation projects. His practice work included the design of an award winning building for the National Museum of Wales and an innovative language school in Gloucester. He completed his Bachelors in Architecture at Sheffield University before studying at Oxford Brookes University for his RIBA Part 2 qualification where he undertook a specialist diploma in Built Resource Studies, a course focussed on conservation, design quality and re-use of existing buildings. He qualified as an Architect following RIBA Part 3 studies at Westminster University. Jonathan is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
