About me

Dr Latika Ahuja is a Research Fellow working on the UNICEF India stream of research at the Centre for Appearance Research (CAR). Latika was awarded her PhD in Psychology from the University of Exeter in 2020, where she examined cross-cultural and culture-specific predisposing factors of disordered eating behaviours, amongst young adults, in Indian and UK contexts. She received her Master's in Clinical Psychology from SNDT Women's University (Mumbai, India). Latika is a trained mental health professional and has experience working therapeutically with young people and adults across various mental health institutions in Mumbai and New Delhi, India.

Latika is passionate about research aiming to improve women's mental health globally. She is also interested in research on prevention and early intervention of common mental health problems and eating disorders, specifically in low and middle-income countries. She is skilled in conducting systematic reviews, qualitative research, and in employing statistical procedures on large quantitative datasets.

Beyond this, Latika has a keen interest in investigating positive body image among young people and adults; using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. More specifically, she is passionate about promoting positive body image among young boys and men.

Prior to joining UWE, Latika worked as a Research Associate within the Exeter HS&DR Evidence Synthesis Centre at the University of Exeter Medical School. This NIHR commissioned programme of work involves synthesising research and other evidence relating to the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, patient experience, and implementation of models and initiatives for improving the delivery of healthcare and NHS organisation.

Latika supervises students at Masters and Undergraduate levels.
