About me

I am a Senior Lecturer in Microbiology and Programme Leader for the Biological Sciences programme. I lead modules on both the Biomedical Science and Biological Sciences programmes and have been the Summer Internships co-ordinator in the School of Applied Sciences since 2015. My degree was in Microbiology (University of Aberdeen) where my interest in microbial biofilms first began. Following my PhD at Aston University, I carried out postdoctoral research at Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester. I gained my first teaching experience at (the then) Bell College of Technology (now the University of the West of Scotland) before moving to UWE Bristol.

Area of expertise

My main interests are microbial biofilms, including in vitro modelling of mono- and dual-species bacterial biofilms. I also have experience of working with self-bioluminescent bacterial biosensors, applying these to biofilm modelling, and have supervised work on probiotic bacteria in conjunction with cell culture.
