About me

Tavs Jorgensen is Associate Professor and AHRC Leadership Fellow at the Centre for Fine Print Research: cfpr.uwe.ac.uk.

Tavs's core research interests are focused on exploring the design and innovation potential presented by new digital fabrication technologies - particular with the glass and ceramics mediums. 

He is currently in receipt of Leadership Fellow grant from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) with a project investigating the use of digital tools to develop new approaches with the ceramic extrusion process for architectural applications https://cfpr.uwe.ac.uk/project/smart-tooling-for-ceramic-profile-extrusion-new-approaches-to-industrial-focussed-interdisciplinary-practice-based-research/. He is also developing interdisciplinary research into the use of 3D printing technology for glass production https://cfpr.uwe.ac.uk/project/glassworks-an-interdisciplinary-research-sandpit/. This research has been funded by UWE's Collaborative Research Award.   

Tavs has a background in ceramics having initially worked as a designer for the tableware industry with leading companies such as Wedgwood and Lenox as clients. He taught for 10 years on the Ceramic and Glass programme at the Royal College of Art, and was also a research fellow at the Autonomatic Research Cluster at Falmouth University. Before joining UWE he taught on the 3D Design course at Plymouth university. He also has a very active visiting lecturing career and have delivered lectures at leading international institutions including Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, University College London, Chulalongkorn University, and The Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen. 

Tavs currently supervise 3 PhD students and has undertaken multiple external research degree examinations. He is currently external examiner at the BA 3D Design and Craft course at the University of Brighton. He is also a member of the AHRC peer review college.

Tavs also maintain an active creative practice with work exhibited at leading venues including the Saatchi Gallery, Pushkin Museum, Museum of Art and Design and Salone de Mobile.
