About me

I began my career as a professional product designer, running my own design consultancy in Sydney, Australia for 10 years. After completing my Masters degree at the Domus Academy in Milan, Italy in 2003 I joined UWE to establish our Product Design programmes

Since 2008 I have been involved with the academic management of the Faculty of Environment and Technology and most recently have been appointed as Deputy Head of College for the newly formed College of Arts, Technology and Environment (CATE).

I am passionate about higher education and its ability to change lives.

My recent work in developing and nurturing transnational educational partnerships in Hong Kong, Oman, Sri Lanka and Latvia has been exceptionally rewarding. Working with colleagues from across the globe to create educational opportunities, build bonds with the UK and advance futures for students studying on UWE programmes in their home country. Together we have developed high performing partnerships that have grown to include student mobility opportunities and joint research alongside the teaching provision.

I am exceptionally proud of my work as the lead client representative for UWE's award winning Engineering Building. In partnership with the Engineering leadership team, I developed the business case for this strategic university investment. I led the University team working closely with colleagues to define our requirements and the external design and construction teams through the design and build of this £40M, 8500 sqm project. The building reflects and supports emerging pedagogy approaches in Engineering, emphasising the collaborative and self-directed approaches to learning required for contemporary Engineering. In 2022 the building was awarded a RIBA South West Award.

I am an experienced manager in the planning and resourcing of Higher Education. With over 15 years' experience in leading the university and faculty business planning processes I currently coordinate the strategic development of a £130M college with 750 employees and 12,000 students across four core business units. Skilled in strategic thinking, institutional leadership and creative problem solving I am able to create meaningful change and drive value for the organisation.

I remain actively involved in teaching and learning as part of the Product Design team here at UWE. The highlight of my year are my History of Design classes with our first year product design students.
