About me

Dr. Vanda Papafilippou is a Senior Lecturer in Human Resources Management at UWE Bristol and is specialised in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace. The main focus of her research is gender inequality in the workplace, diversity management practices and inclusive recruitment. In a recent research project (Vice Chancellors Early Career Researcher Development Award £14,000) she led, she looked at the extent to which formal, internal and external, women's networks contribute to gender equality within the organisation and the wider profession (engineering). She has also recently completed a British Academy-funded research project focusing on the experience of European expatriates in the UK within and outside the workplaces (PI Dr. Gaggiotti, £10,000) and a HEIF-funded project on Neurodiversity in Engineering (with Dr Laura Fogg-Rogers, Dr Marianthi Leon and Miss Lucy Downes) (£9,240).

Her methodological expertise lies in interviewing, ethnography and document analysis and critical discourse analysis.

Vanda, is particularly active in engaging with the industry. She has recently received Higher Education Innovation Funding (£5,000) in order to develop (in collaboration with other colleagues) a series ‘HR Surgeries’ for SMEs and larger organisations (for more details, please see: https://www.uwe.ac.uk/business/business-services/hr-surgeries). She has also developed and delivered training for SMEs in the creative sector through the Creative Workforce of the Future and larger organisations through UWE’s Executive Education on inclusive recruitment and selection. She has also developed EDI training material for social enterprises (on inclusive leadership and inclusive HRM practice) and in collaboration with Professor Carol Jarvis did a policy evaluation for the NHS Leadership Academy.

Vanda has also been a judge for the Applied Research Conference of CIPD (professional body for HR and people development) since 2019.
