About me
Professor Jessica Lamond is Professor of Real Estate and Climate Risk and Dean for Research and Enterprise in the College of Arts, Technology and Environment at the University of the West of England (UWE).
After joined UWE in 2011 she was a founding member of the Centre for Floods Communities and Resilience. In 2018 she became Professor and co-Director of the Centre for Architecture and Built Environment Research. Prior to joining UWE Jessica completed a PhD and was a postdoctoral fellow in Flood Risk and Real Estate at the University of Wolverhampton. Before joining academia, Jessica worked in consultancy and research roles in government and for Unilever.
Jessica is internationally recognised as a world leader in transdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange crossing the fields of real estate, climate risk, adaptation and resilience. She has led or participated in over 25 funded research projects in the last decade with total value of over £10m. Her research has impact through influence on national policy and international best practice in the field of risk management. As an educator Jessica is recognised for delivering outstanding research-led postgraduate and doctoral teaching and learning.
Appointed as one of 8 International Research Advisory Panel members for Natural Hazards Research Australia; a member of BSI committee CB/501 Flood risk & watercourses; Invited member of Flood Re Transition Planning Group; Member of the Defra/Industry Property Flood Resilience Roundtable; Reviews for UKRI, and various international research funding bodies for example the Netherlands NWO division for social sciences, International Environmental Research Institute (IERI), and the New Zealand National Science Challenge.

Area of expertise
Jessica specialises in mitigation of social, structural and financial risk from natural hazards and climate risk in urban areas with a particular focus on flooding. This includes aspects of property valuation and insurance, flood recovery and damage management, and the costs and benefits of adaptation for property owners and occupiers.
She is an expert in sociotechnical aspects property flood resilience (PFR), co-authoring the UK code of practice and guidance on this topic.
Jessica is also expert in community preferences and attitudes to climate risk and adaptations include blue-green infrastructure and other flood mitigation approaches. She also researches adaptation pathways in multi-stakeholder contexts, linking aspects of governance, policy and practice to the visions, knowledge gaps, barriers and incentives to adapt.
