About me

Dr Nadia Craddock is a research psychologist specialising in body image, disordered eating, corporate social responsibility, and colourism. 

As a Senior Research Fellow at Centre for Appearance Research (CAR) on the Dove Self-Esteem Project academic partnership team, Nadia leads large-scale, multi-stakeholder projects that aim to develop and evaluate body image interventions for children and young people. Recent projects have involved working closely with UNICEF and Girl Effect in Indonesia. She also currently supports a UKRI-funded grant on colourism led by Dr Aisha Phoenix.

Nadia is known for her enthusiasm and commitment to science communication. She is regularly invited for talks, panel discussions, and interviews. For example, Nadia has spoken at events such as Women of the World, Cheltenham Literature Festival, Cheltenham Science Festival, Good Girls Eat Dinner, and Anti-Diet Riot Fest. She has also given talks and spoken on panels for the Department of Education, various Cabinet Office networks, DK Publishing, Harvard TH Chan School of Public Heath, and the World Association for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. Nadia also frequently provides comment for articles on body image, eating disorders and related topics in publications such as British Vogue, NPR, SELF, Women's Health, and Face magazine. Finally, Nadia co-hosts and produces Centre for Appearance Research's podcast, Appearance Matters.

Nadia obtained her undergraduate in Psychology (first class honours, top of class) from the University of Bath (2014) and master's degree in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard University (2015). She then completed her PhD at the Centre for Appearance Research at UWE Bristol (2020) focused on corporate social responsibility within the advertising, beauty and fashion industries in relation to body image. Nadia was awarded the prestigious Seymour Fisher Outstanding Body Image Dissertation Annual Award for her PhD in 2021. 

 

Nadia is an active member, and current co-chair of the DEI committee, of the Academy for Eating Disorders. Nadia also serves on the Editorial Board for Body Image: An International Journal of Research.

 

Nadia is currently open to supervising doctoral students on topics related to body image.
