About me
I joined the Centre for Transport and Society (CTS) in 2007 as a PhD researcher. My principal research interest lies in the field of sustainable and physically active forms of travel, particularly within the context of everyday urban trips. My PhD thesis drew on social-psychological theories of behaviour and processes of social influence, an area that I have continued to explore in my subsequent research in CTS. I currently hold an ESRC Policy Fellowship, whereby I am seconded part-time to the UK Department for Transport (DfT), working in the Behavioural Science team within the DfT’s Central Research Division.
In CTS I have carried out a variety of projects in the areas
of travel behaviour, innovation, and the evaluation of sustainable transport
programmes. Since 2013 I have been part of the CTS team evaluating Local
Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) measures in the West of England, and the
subsequent Access WEST programme. This included the LSTF
Strategic Employment Sites case study evaluation conducted for the DfT. Since
2020 I have been part of the team conducting the National Evaluation of the Transforming
Cities Fund, also for the DfT. Other
projects have explored cycle commuting, the use and users
of e-bikes, the user
experience of bike-share, the role of traveller information systems in
travel behaviour, and the impact of free WiFi on travel
time use on trains.
