About me

I am a UWE Bristol alumna and Senior Lecturer in Environmental Health, with a background in local authority practice. I enjoy bringing that practical experience into my teaching and supporting students as they develop their confidence, professional skills and research interests.

My research focuses on hoarding behaviour and how services can provide effective, compassionate support. I lead a national research project on responses to hoarding and am writing a forthcoming book for Routledge.

Outside work, I am a mum of two and enjoy running and travelling with my family.

Area of expertise

My expertise spans environmental health, public health, food safety and health promotion, drawing on professional practice and university teaching. I have a particular research interest in hoarding behaviour, including housing conditions, risk, safeguarding and multi-agency responses. I lead a national research project examining how local authorities and Fire and Rescue Services identify and respond to hoarding, with a focus on improving support for people affected and informing policy and professional practice. I am also developing a forthcoming Routledge Focus book, Balancing Humanity and Protection: Environmental Health and Hoarding Behaviour, exploring the practical and ethical challenges of responding to hoarding.
