About me
I am Senior Researcher in Cyber Security at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), with a disciplinary background spanning cryptography, artificial intelligence, and the security of IoT and UAV systems. My research sits at the intersection of emerging technologies and applied security, with a particular focus on AI-driven cyber defence, secure and privacy-preserving systems, and the resilience of autonomous platforms such as drones and connected medical devices.
I have led and contributed to a range of international projects, including the development of AI-enabled systems for real-time impairment detection, secure IoT platforms for healthcare, companion robots for emotional support, and secure UAV support systems. Collectively, my work has secured over £800,000 in research funding from UK and international sources, building collaborations with partners across Europe, Japan, the Middle East, and North America. My outputs include peer-reviewed publications, invited talks, and collaborative grants that translate fundamental research into impactful applications in healthcare, transportation, and critical infrastructure.
I am an IEEE Senior Member and actively contribute to the global research community through editorial work, peer reviewing, and service on programme and organising committees for international conferences. I am also engaged in mentoring at UWE, bringing my research experience to help students explore the applications of AI and cyber security in practice.
I welcome PhD students interested in topics relating to AI in cyber security, UAV and IoT security, applied cryptography, and the design of secure, intelligent systems.
Area of expertise
My areas of expertise include UAV and IoT security, applied cryptography, adversarial machine learning, AI-enabled cyber defence, and privacy-preserving techniques such as fully homomorphic encryption. I also have experience in designing secure autonomous systems, developing AI-powered detection and monitoring tools, and applying deep learning to safety-critical applications such as healthcare and transportation.
