About me
Dr Ahmed Arif is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at the University of the West of England and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). He has extensive experience in higher education teaching, curriculum leadership, research, and professional engagement. His teaching spans undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes, and he has experience supervising research students and supporting learners from diverse academic and professional backgrounds. His teaching practice is informed by both academic scholarship and substantial industry experience, enabling him to effectively integrate theory and practice within business and management education.
Dr Arif holds a European Doctorate in Law and Economics, a joint doctoral programme delivered by the University of Bologna, University of Hamburg, and Erasmus University Rotterdam. He was awarded the prestigious Erasmus Mundus Fellowship for this programme. During his doctoral studies, he also worked as an Associate Visiting Researcher at The Wharton School and Penn Carey Law, both at the University of Pennsylvania.
Before joining UWE Bristol in 2022, Dr Arif served as Head of the Finance and Economics Cluster at FAST National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences in Pakistan and taught at several other higher education institutions. In addition to his university teaching, he has designed and delivered numerous training workshops for faculty members, professionals, and postgraduate researchers, particularly in research methods, analytics, and academic development.
Dr. Ahmed Arif has significant experience in programme leadership, curriculum development, and module design within higher education. As a Programme Leader and module leader at University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), he has contributed to the development, review, and enhancement of undergraduate and postgraduate curricula in accounting, finance, and research methods. His responsibilities have included leading curriculum delivery, coordinating teaching teams, overseeing assessment and moderation processes, and ensuring alignment with institutional quality assurance standards and professional expectations. He has also been actively involved in designing assessment strategies, integrating applied and research-led learning approaches, and embedding employability and analytical skills within the curriculum.
Dr Arif also brings seven years of industry experience, which enhances the practical relevance of his teaching and supports his commitment to professionally focused business and management education. His research interests include risk management, banking, financial regulation, and financial markets. His research has been published in internationally recognised academic journals, and his scholarly profile is available on Google Scholar.
