About me
Based within the School of Health and Social Wellbeing, I am a Senior Lecturer on Adult Nursing.
Before joining the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) in 2025, I held several academic and leadership positions at HEI’s, including Adult Nurse Lecturer, Adult Field Lead, Deputy Programme Manager and Academic Lead for Simulation. Throughout my career, I have been committed to enhancing nursing education through innovative teaching, curriculum development and collaborative working. I have led strategic initiatives to improve the student experience, including developing simulation facilities, introducing virtual placements and strengthening interprofessional education.
At UWE Bristol, I am a module manager and a personal tutor for undergraduate nursing students. Additionally, I am also actively involved in international nursing education, facilitating learning to nursing students in Hainan, China, where I draw on my clinical and academic expertise to promote innovative teaching approaches, cross-cultural learning and the development of professional nursing practice.
I have a strong knowledge base in adult nursing, clinical sciences, professional practice, leadership and simulation-based education, with extensive experience teaching and assessing students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I am particularly passionate about creating inclusive, engaging and evidence-based learning environments that help students develop the knowledge, confidence and professional skills required for clinical practice. My teaching philosophy emphasises experiential learning, reflection and the integration of theory with practice. I have developed innovative educational approaches, including simulated clinical shifts, virtual placements and interprofessional learning opportunities, to support students' professional development and prepare them for the complexities of contemporary healthcare.
My research interests focus on simulation-based education, peer learning and the professional socialisation of nursing students. My professional doctorate explores how peer learning within simulated clinical environments can support nursing students in developing their professional identity, confidence and sense of belonging within the nursing profession. This research builds on my experience of developing innovative simulated placements and my interest in how students learn through interaction, collaboration and shared clinical experiences. I am particularly interested in translating educational research into practice to enhance the quality of nursing education, strengthen professional development and ultimately improve patient care.
