About me

In 2026 I completed my PhD on community-led housing - (Re)interpreting community: an exploration of the meanings of community within the context of community-led housing in England. I'm currently working as a Research Associate, collaborating on several projects based in the Sustainable Planning and Environments Centre at UWE.

Current projects:

What do we mean by community? Co-creating practical tools for planning practice. RTPI-funded Early Career Researcher project, building on the outputs of my PhD research to develop a toolkit for understanding and engaging with 'community' within the planning system. Feb-Dec 2026.

Co-designing a community-led retrofit toolkit for 20th century conservation areas. IAA-AHRC funded project working with local residents across three conservation areas to develop resources that support community-led approaches to delivering zero-carbon neighbourhood scale retrofit. Mar 2026-Feb 2027.

Planning for cemeteries - present and future, for culture and nature. AHRC Impact Accelerator Account funded project developed in partnership with Preston City Council, aiming to develop better guidance for planners and cemeteries professionals in developing and managing their sites for people and nature. Jul 2026-Feb 2027.

The impacts of 'Special Measures' designation on local authorities. University of Hertfordshire/UWE research project. May 2025-Sept 2026.

Completed projects:

Beyond statutory Reguirements: Inclusive Dialogue for Good Engagement (BRIDGE) - exploring what constitutes 'good practice' in stakeholder engagement for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects.

Outside of UWE I have 25+ years of personal and professional experience in the community-led housing (CLH) sector and work as a CLH enabler, consultant, trainer/facilitator and business owner.
