About me
Anna is a Senior Lecturer in Architecture, Programme Leader of the BSc (Hons) Architecture course, and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). She is an EU-registered architect and holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of the West of England, as well as a Masters degree in Architecture (Advanced Virtual and Technological Architecture Research) from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London.
Anna has taught as a Visiting Professor in Architecture at IE University in Spain, and has been a Visiting Researcher at both the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and the Institute of Colloid and Biointerface Science, Department of Bionanosciences, BOKU University, Vienna. She is a member of the Unconventional Computing Laboratory at the University of the West of England.
She has extensive industry experience, having worked for national and international design-led practices across sectors including architecture, interior architecture, and landscape architecture. She has collaborated with high-profile firms such as KCA International, MKV Design, Hartmann Designs, Gustafson Porter, and Foster + Partners.
Anna pursues a highly interdisciplinary research programme focused on biomaterials, biosensing, unconventional computing, digital fabrication, responsive building systems, sustainable design, and smart wearables. Her work includes the development of biohybrid material systems from living microbial communities that exhibit responsive, regenerative, and computing capabilities. She is currently researching the sensing and information processing functions of fungal and bacterial composites for wearable and architectural applications, particularly their responses to environmental, chemical, and mechanical stimuli.
