About me

I am Beth Benker, and I am a Lecturer in Sociology and the co-Programme Lead for the Foundation Year (alongside Julia Carter).

My interests are firmly rooted in food - particularly food and gender within the contemporary dynamic of commodified and distanced food (i.e., what effect are supermarkets and food advertisments having?). My research also looks at sustainability - how the effects of distancing and advertising interacts with sustainability, and what effect this might have on the environment on a national, and therefore global, scale.

I also have a blog, which you can find here: https://boomblog.food.blog

Area of expertise

Sociology of food, gender, commodification and distancing.
