About me

I have been a Senior Lecturer at UWE since 2004, and an Associate Fellow in Learning and Teaching since July 2012. I work part-time, usually on Mondays and Tuesdays, subject to teaching commitments.

My areas of teaching based on my research expertise revolve around the activity, (measures, types, reliability) of the Central Nervous System with respect to attention. Additionally I teach about the biological aspects of  emotion and motivation, development and atypical development of sex and a variety of cognitive functions.

I am Psychology lead in outreach and Social Science in the City

Area of expertise

How we pay attention, how our brains work in putting it all together (and what we ignore), how our attentional systems develop and development in other cognitive skills, autism.

The nervous system and its responses in emotion and motivation.

How do we learn best? What are the cognitive processes that underlie motivation and interest in learning; how can these be tapped by teachers both in teaching provision and in feedback.
