About me

Yingdan (Catherine) Cai is a Senior Lecturer in Strategy and International Management and Programme Leader for BA(Hons) International Business and BA(Hons) International Business Management.

Catherine has been an educator in HEIs for more than 5 years and holds the PG Cert in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (with Distinction). She is a Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE) and a Fellow of Higher Education Academy.

Catherine is active in research and teaching in the field of strategy and international business. Her teaching and research interests focus on international business strategy and emerging market multinational enterprises. She has published in Asia Pacific Journal of Management (ABS 3*) and previously presented in various academic conferences and doctoral consortiums. With the application of institutional economics and transaction costs in International Business, she attended the fourth Lindau Meeting in Economic Sciences, which is an opportunity for highly selected young economists to interact with 22 Nobel laureates in economic sciences.

Catherine has received various awards for her teaching and research. Her project "Practice-led teaching and learning for BA(Hons) International Business" has been shortlisted for the Management Education Practice Award (Early Career Track) at British Academy of Management 2018 Annual Conference and highly commended. She has also received exceptional contribution honorarium in 2019 from UWE Bristol in recognition of work on the BA International Business programme. She has been nominated for various teaching awards at UWE. For research, her paper "Does government stake influence cross-border deal completion? Evidence from Brazil" was a finalist for CGIO Best Paper in International Corporate Governance in International Management Division in Academy of Management Annual Meeting 2014. An abridged version of the paper was published in Academy of Management Best Paper Proceedings. In addition, her dissertation proposal has won the Best COST Think Thank Proposal Award in the 1st COST–EIBA / EIASM Doctoral Think Tank on Emerging Markets and Their Corporate Players at EIBA 2010.

As programme leader, her vision is to prepare students on the programme to become responsible global citizens.
