About me

I am a Research Fellow and Health Psychologist based at the Centre for Appearance Research. My research interests are focused on identifying the protective factors, concerns and support needs of people who have a visible difference. My research is currently focussed on developing a portfolio of patient reported outcome measures (i.e. PROMs) to identify quality of life for people who have experienced a burn injury. We have developed child (aged 0-8), young person (aged 8-17) and adult (aged 18 plus) versions. These scales have been developed in collaboration with burn patients and burn-specialist health professionals and are currently being psychometrically validated. We have also started to develop a parental coping PROM to assess quality of life for parents who are supporting a child with a burn. This PROM is currently in the development stage.

My other research interests focus on investigating the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) for body image dissatisfaction in those with and/or without a visible difference and the role of psychological flexibility (i.e. an ACT construct) as a potential risk factor for body image dissatisfaction. ‚Äč
