About me

I am a Senior Lecturer and Health Psychologist. I am the Programme Director for the MSc Health Psychology at UWE.

Prior to my Lecturing role, I was a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Appearance Research (CAR) for over 10 years.  My research interests are focused on identifying the protective factors, concerns and support needs of people who have a visible difference. My research is currently focussed on developing a portfolio of patient reported outcome measures (i.e. PROMs) to identify quality of life for people who have experienced a burn injury. We have developed child (aged 0-8), young person (aged 8-17), adult (aged 18 plus) and parent versions. These scales have been developed in collaboration with burn patients and burn-specialist health professionals and have been psychometrically validated. To find out more about the CARe Burn Scales, please visit our website: https://www.careburnscales.org.uk/

My other research interests focus on investigating the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) for body image dissatisfaction in those with and/or without a visible difference and the role of psychological flexibility (i.e. an ACT construct) as a potential risk factor for body image dissatisfaction. ‚Äč
