About me

I am a Senior Lecturer in Education at UWE Bristol, working across both  PGCE and undergraduate programmes in Primary Initial Teacher Education (ITE). I contribute to the English and Professional Learning teams, and I bring a strong early years perspective to my teaching.

Before joining UWE, I spent 15 years as a teacher, literacy lead and senior leader in Bristol schools, working across the age ranges. During this time, I developed a particular passion for teaching in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and early literacy. I then worked for eight years as a Teaching and Learning Consultant for the Local Education Authority in Bristol, supporting teachers in developing their teaching of reading, writing and oracy.

My MA studies at University College London (UCL) sparked a research interest in how teachers understand and teach reading. My dissertation explored how educators develop their perceptions of reading pedagog and this continues to inform my academic work.

I collaborate with schools and educational organisations across the region and contribute to professional development initiatives.  I ma currently studing towards an EdD.

Area of expertise

Early reading, English, Trauma Informed Practice, relational practice, behaviour management.
