About me
I was a teacher, literacy lead and senior leader in Bristol schools for 15 years, working across the age ranges. During this time I developed a love for teaching in EYFS and early literacy. I then spent 8 years working for the Local Education Authority in Bristol as a teaching and learning consultant, supporting teachers with their teaching of reading, writing and oracy.
My MA studies at UCL resulted in an interest in teacher understandings of teaching reading. This included how teachers develop their perception of how reading is taught which provided the basis for my dissertation.
I now work across both the PGCE and undergraduate programmes in ITE at UWE as part of the English, Maths and Professional Learning teams. I aim to bring an early years perspective. I also work with students in school and online who are training within a range of our online programmes. I am a qualified coach and use this approach throughout my work.
Area of expertise
I am passionate about the teaching of reading particularly early reading. I uphold the belief that all children can learn to read with the appropriate support and approach.
I practice a trauma informed approach to my work and this is a particular area of interest for me.
