About me

I am a Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy with a background in clinical practice and research. Before entering academia, I worked as an Occupational Therapist within the NHS, supporting both working-age and older adults in mental health services.

I went on to complete a PhD at the University of Sussex, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). My doctoral research, entitled "Looking After Abuelos: An Ethnography of Dementia Care in an Andalusian Town," examined dementia care in Andalusia, Spain. Drawing on occupational science and social anthropology, the study explored how personhood, kinship, community care, and spiritual occupations shape everyday experiences of dementia care.

Alongside my teaching and research, I am part of the ExCHANGE (Exeter Care Homes Knowledge) Collaboration at the University of Exeter, an academic–practice partnership that works with care homes across Devon to develop more evidence-informed approaches to care.

Currently, I am leading a research project funded by North Somerset Council and the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board, exploring the lived experiences and wellbeing of international care staff working in UK care homes.
