About me

I'm a Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy. I have worked as an OT in clinical practice, across working age adults' and older adults' mental health services within the NHS. I then moved into research to conduct a doctoral research project, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, at the University of Sussex. My PhD thesis investigated dementia care in Andalusia, Spain, and is entitled 'Looking After Abuelos: An Ethnography of Dementia Care in an Andalusian Town'. The research used occupational science and social anthropological theory to explore questions of personhood, kinship, community care and spiritual occupations in Andalusian dementia care. I am also involved in an academic-practice research team at the University of Exeter, called The ExCHANGE (The University of Exeter Care Homes Knowledge) Collaboration, which works with care homes in Devon to enable them to become more evidence-informed in their practice.
