About me

CHOLLETTE OLISAH received the B.Sc. degree in Computer Science from Anambra State University, Uli. She received her M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 2011 and 2015, respectively. She began her academic career in 2016 and in 2019 progressed to Senior Lecturer at Baze University, Abuja, Nigeria. In 2017 she became a Fellow of the distinguished Massachusetts Institute of Technology Empowering the Teachers (MIT-ETT) Fellowship program held in fall, 2017 and was privileged to be featured in the Total 2020 Pathway Magazine. She is currently a Research Fellow in Computer Vision and Machine Learning with the Centre for Machine Vision that is associated with the prestigious Robotics Laboratory in the University of West of England, Bristol, UK.

Area of expertise

Contributions I have made in machine learning stem from the understanding of the underlying data using computer vision in a "white box" kind of approach. Therefore, I consider image/data understanding to be at the forefront of my research efforts in computer vision and machine learning. My research work is not entirely focused on developing efficient pattern detection/recognition/learning algorithms but on framing the theoretical basis through image/data understanding from which I have achieved huge successes in face recognition, computer-assisted medical diagnosis, computer-assisted agricultural decisions.

Currently, I specialize on applying computer vision and machine learning in Healthcare and Agric-tech.

During her Ph.D. Dr. Chollette won the Government of Malaysia Fundamental Research Grant and in partnership with University of West of England, in 2020, won a GCRF Agric-Tech Catalyst Grant Award. As team leader for Baze University, Nigeria, collaborated with IBB University Lapai, Nigeria, in the development of Virtual Laboratory for Science and Engineering, a grant awarded by the Royal Academy of Engineering, London, UK. Dr. Chollette has authored over 18 peer-reviewed scholarly, conference, journal and book chapter articles and has served as reviewer for several international peer-reviewed journals.
