About me

Dr Cristina Costa is Associate Professor Digital Education and Society in the Department of Education and Childhood.

She is a digital sociologist and educational researcher interested in exploring the intersection of education and the participatory web through social theory lenses.  She is also interested in broader issues regarding the participatory web in the context of a changing society, including digital inequalities, the changing nature of knowledge, and digital practices.

Cristina has a research record that links social theory to emerging academic areas in an attempt to bridge existing gap between theory and practice. This has resulted in researching areas as diverse as Curriculum Innovation, Digital Scholarship, Literacies and e-Health. In 2013 she completed her PhD on the participatory web in the context of academic research: landscapes of change and conflicts.

She is the co-editor of the Social Theory Applied blog/website www.socialtheoryapplied.com

She has served as an external research examiner (Ph.D and Master's Vivas) in the UK and the rest of Europe.
