About me

I have an academic background in both design and literature, and have written, co-written, edited or made significant contributions to more than 10 books on architecture. Key works include: Architectural Design, London (re)generation (2012 Wiley); Architectural Voices, Listening to Old Buildings (2007 Wiley); Liverpool One, Remaking a City Centre (2008 Wiley); and Space Craft, Developments in Architectural Computing (2008 RIBA Enterprises). I curated the exhibition Unseen Hands, 100 Years of Structural Engineering, V&A, 2008. I was an artist in residence at the Roman baths, Bath 2009-11, and my work from this project was shown at the Royal West of England Academy in 2013. I am a co-founder of Estranged Space, and a member of Perception Network, the Architectural Humanities Research Association, Interior Educators and Mapping Spectral Traces. I was the external examiner for the programme BA Interior Architecture and Design at Leeds Metropolitan University 2010-14, and lead UWE's own programme in Interior Architecture. I have lectured widely on the subjects of place and heritage, throughout the UK and internationally. I co-oranised the international conference "Transgression" on behalf of the AHRA which ran at the M-Shed and Arnolfini in Bristol, 2013; and have co-edited two post-conference publications, published November 2014 by Routledge and Bloomsbury. My research is presently focused on a project at Bath Abbey; I presented my work at the conference "Body + Space" at Middlesex University in September 2014. I sit on the editorial board of the journal Interiors: Design, Architecture, Culture (pubished by Bloomsbury). I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
