About me

I have has spent most of my career working within several Higher Education and NHS roles  and established myself as a  senior lecturer, researcher and accredited and registered integrative psychotherapist.  Currently, I am a senior lecturer at the University of West England (UWE) and my main interests are evidence based learning, research and evaluation, cardiology (mainly in heart failure and hypertension) leadership and psychotherapy.

Area of expertise

Previously, I was a Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham, where I undertook my PhD in examining b-2 Adrenoceptor gene polymorphisms to determine if they had an influence on accelerating hypertension in African Trinidadian people.  The post was sponsored by the Florence Nightingale Fellowship, Sandra Charitable Trust and a PhD Fellowship from the University of Nottingham and West Indies, as data collection took place within Trinidad and Tobago. I then went on to become an advanced nurse practitioner and researcher sponsored by the Department of Health, to incorporate clinical genetics into mainstream medicine, through the development of specialist genetic nurse led clinics at Birmingham Women's Hospital and the University of Birmingham.  This was an initiative to develop Chapter 8 of the National Service Framework for cardiac care, especially around Sudden Death Syndrome.

I became a senior lecturer in Nursing in 2006 and have developed international connections for research with the University of the West Indies, Trinidad.

In my spare time I work as a counsellor and psychotherapist and currently undertake voluntary work with a mental health charity.
