About me

I joined UWE in November, 2019 and have been involved in social work practice and education for over 35 years. I teach on the undergraduate and postgraduate social work programmes and the AMHP and CPD professional programmes at UWE. I am the coordinator for the Social Policy and Law module on the Step Up programme and the Theories to Inform Intervention in Social Work module on the BSc (Hons) Social Work programme. I am also the Year lead for Level Three of the BSc (Hons) Social Work. 

Area of expertise

I have a long term interest in the Radical Social Work and Classical Marxist traditions and have taught social theory, social policy, law, social work theory, sociology, psychology, mental health and research methods to undergraduate and postgraduate students over the past twenty years.  My research interests are in the areas of mental health, radical social work, historical materialism, social and political movements and social theory. I am particularly interested in involving service users and social workers in research. I am a qualified teacher and social worker and have a long history of teaching non traditional students in Higher Education.
