About me
I am an HCPC registered counselling psychologist and currently in the last stages of UWE’s Counselling Psychology doctorate. I am passionate about learning and teaching, and interested in issues of difference and power, cultural and social processes, social justice and psychotherapy. I am currently conducting an autoethnographic research for my doctoral thesis on the topic of epistemological homeness within counselling psychology training and the medical and neoliberal discourses in the mental health field.
Area of expertise
I obtained a Master of Arts in counselling psychology at the American University in Cairo where I worked as a teaching assistant during my training. Since 2018, I have been practicing as a counselling psychologist with experience in individual, couples and group therapy, and grounding in person-centred, relational psychodynamic and existential approaches.
I have obtained further training and supervised clinical experience in systemic approaches, EMDR and group therapy. I have a variety of clinical experience including working with refugees and asylum seekers in a non-profit organization, with students in a university wellbeing centre, and with adults and couples in the private sector. Throughout my clinical experience, I have been involved in developing and delivering trainings and offering clinical supervision.
Since moving to the UK in 2021, I have gained registration with HCPC and gained clinical experience in both inpatient and third sector settings.
I am passionate about autoethnography and post-qualitative research. I believe in collaboration as part of research and have enjoyed presenting with colleagues in conferences such as the internal conference of autoethnography, community psychology festival and DCoP conference.
I am a member of Southwest BPS committee and the Black and Asian Counselling Psychology Group and believe in the value of bringing social justice issues and a systemic lens to the psychology field, in all its processes.
