About me

I am a Research Fellow at the Centre for Appearance Research, working with Dr Helena Lewis-Smith on a project mapping psychosocial support for younger women after breast cancer, funded by the Bristol and Weston Hospitals Charity Legacy Grant (2025–2027). The project aims to inform the development and evaluation of interventions that address the psychosocial needs of younger women following breast cancer treatment.

My research background sits at the intersection of body image, gender, and psychosocial health. I am interested in how gendered appearance norms and embodiment shape people's sense of self, their relationships, and their wellbeing. Alongside my role at UWE, I am completing an ESRC-funded PhD at the University of Bath, where my research examines body surveillance and appearance-related experience among adolescent girls, drawing on qualitative, participatory, and creative methods. I have additional research experience across applied health and community settings, including work on body image, weight stigma, and community health interventions. I am committed to research that is participatory, interdisciplinary, and socially engaged.

Area of expertise

Body image; gender and femininity; psychosocial health; health-related bodily change; embodiment; qualitative and participatory methods; peer and school-based research
