About me

I studied Psychology at the University of Brighton as a mature student, and completed my Masters Degree in Health Psychology here at UWE. I worked for the Centre for Appearance Research (CAR) at UWE on projects exploring Appearance Psychology, including psychological support for burns survivors, the impact of appearance-focused internet games on career aspirations and body esteem in children, and the effect of social media on body image, and social comparison. I also spent time researching and improving an eye witness recognition system (EvoFIT), exploring procedures and cognitive interview techniques to enhance and improve results for facial recognition and police investigations. This system is now widely adopted across UK police forces, and proving very successful in identifying criminals compared to traditional procedures.

I am currently working on my PhD exploring psychological solutions to counter conspiracy theories, particularly relating to global health challenges, such as acceptance of anti-vaccine misinformation, climate change denial and far-right political ideology. The confluence of these psychological effects is emerging as one of the most critical challenges of our time.

I have been teaching Psychology for over ten years.
