About me


Freya is BA Hons Filmmaking, UWE_FILM Programme Leader. 

She is a FULBRIGHT Scholar and FELLOW of Syracuse University, NY where she completed her MFA in Fine Art Film. As CL of Film Production at UoG, she is credited with creating the course as it is today but is delighted to now be teaching in Bristol where she has lived for 12 years.

Freya is passionate about teaching and has been nominated for Best Lecturer and University Enterprise Awards, won a UoG University Teaching Fellowship in 2012 and hugely prestigious HEA National Teaching Fellowship in 2015. She is on the Executive Board for NAHEMI, the Directors Board of the IFA, Bologna and is the current External Examiner for the NFTS. 

Freya launched  'boyandbearfilms' in 2014 and since then has completed short NOT WAVING, starring Peter Bowles for IShorts/Creative England,  documentary HOW LUCKY? about Lucky Ndlovu, which was filmed in Finetown Township, SA and 'experimental musical'   BREAD AND BUTTER. All three films have screened Internationally. She is in development on a  'Tinder' doc and drama 'SHOPPED OUT' a 'spiritual sequel' to her Award-winning (ans BAFTA nominated) WINDOW SHOPPING. 

Between 2010 and 2012 she developed and taught film workshops for Actor/Director David Morrissey's charity C.A.S.T (The Creative Arts Schools Trust) working in refugee camps in Tyre, Lebanon and townships outside Johannesburg in South Africa. Prior to this she worked as an Editor on primarily documentary-based projects for BBC4, BBC2 and the Open University and as a Post Production Supervisor on high- end dramas for the BBC including Babyfather, Outside the Rules and The Whistle-Blower.‚Äč
