About me

Gemma has moved back to Bristol after 16 years in the Midlands. Gemma trained as nurse in Birmingham and later joined the university she had studied at as a lecturer. Prior to lecturing Gemma worked on a male psychiatric intensive care unit in Birmingham, gaining insight into managing the treatment and care of males living in distress or trauma. Since then Gemma has worked across most specialist settings such as; eating disorders, mother and baby units.

Gemma is undertaking her doctorate in the area of men’s mental health in the music industry and is particularly focusing on music of black origin.

She is also a director of a non-profit organisation for men’s mental health, through this Gemma made a film around men's mental health in the music industry and has given key note addresses, workshops and teaching sessions as a result.

Gemma remains in clinical practice in Birmingham

She has also worked with children and young people across Birmingham who have been subject to the criminal justice system.

Gemma has been a hip hop promoter in Bristol since she was 16, and will gladly talk to anyone who will listen about hip hop!

Area of expertise

Gemma specialised in sexually harmful behavior, gang crime and family work, men's mental health, suicide and high risk groups, feminism, the power threat meaning framework, epistemic injustice, psychosis, OCD, music and mental health.
